Public invited to run Thursday after Lamb Invite

Annual FMHS cross-country invitational at Rodeo Park

FORT MADISON - With Thursday's annual Fort Madison Invitational Cross Country run just a day away, the cross-country squads are hosting an inaugural 5K fundraiser following the regular Invitational.
Fort Madison's cross country team has won the Rodeo Park Cross Country Course for decades and for the first time is inviting the community to join the tradition.
At the conclusion of the boys' high school run, an open 5K, which used to held decades ago as part of cross-country invites, will be open to the public in general.
The event is a fundraiser for the school district's cross-country programs and people can preregister for the event at getmeregistered.com. Registration fees are $40 and includes a 5K t-shirt, a bib with a timing chip, and 1st and 2nd place awards for age groups 18 and under, 19-35, and 36 and over. Both male and female divisions will be awarded.
All proceeds will go to the Fort Madison Cross Country, and Track and Field programs.
Quality Feeds and the Fort Madison LULAC Club are sponsors of the first-time event.
The Lady Hounds captured the Ron Hunerdosse Invitational at Fairfield's Waterworks Park last week, while the boys took 2nd place. They also dominated the Keokuk Cross Country Invitational and they both hung with the top teams at the SilverStreak Invitational at a loaded Galesburg event.
The Hounds could be looking at the first year where both boys and girls qualify for the state meet when qualifications come around in October.
